12. HOOKED ON A FEELING by B.J. THOMAS

Thomas was signed to Scepter Records and had some hits with his group The Triumphs before Scepter producer Chips Moman convinced him to leave Texas and come to American Studios in Memphis, where he recorded some of the songs James wrote for his album On My Way.

13. I WANT YOU BACK by THE JACKSON 5

This was written by a team of Motown writers called The Corporation. The head of the label, Berry Gordy, was one of the writers. They were based in California, unlike most Motown writers who were in the Detroit offices.

14. I'M NOT IN LOVE by 10CC

I'M NOT IN LOVE by 10CC

This song incorporated the backing of a large wordless choir, which in reality was the group's voices. It was painstakingly built up from chord loops and multi tracks: some 256 vocal dubs were required to complete the lush harmonies behind Eric Stewart's vocal.

15. LAKE SHORE DRIVE by ALIOTTA-HAYNES-JEREMIAH

This song appears in the 2017 movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The original in 2014 used music from the '70s instead of more modern fare, with tremendous results: the soundtrack went to #1 in the US. Director James Gunn dug deeper into the decade for the sequel and found more forgotten favorites, including "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac and "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO.

16. MOONAGE DAYDREAM by DAVID BOWIE

Bowie wrote "Moonage Daydream" specifically for fashion designer Fred Burrett, who Bowie met in The Sombrero gay bar and decided to groom for stardom. Burrett, who changed him name to Freddie Burretti, is credited as a vocalist on the song, but whatever contributions he might have made never actually made it onto the track.

17. MR. BLUE SKY by ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA

This song closed the side of the album known as "Concerto For A Rainy Day." The lyrics are uplifting, and follow the concept of a rainy day that comes to an end.

18. MY SWEET LORD by GEORGE HARRISON

This was Harrison's first single as a solo artist, and it was his biggest hit. The song is about the Eastern religions he was studying. Highly unusual for a hit song, Harrison repeats part of a Hindu mantra in the lyric when he sings, "Hare Krishna... Krishna, Krishna." When set to music, this mantra is typically part of a chant, that acts as a call to the Lord. Harrison interposes it with a Christian call to faith: "Hallelujah" - he was pointing out that "Hallelujah and Hare Krishna are quite the same thing."

This song of comfort and hope was written by Soul songwriter/producer Stan Vincent, who also worked with The Soul Generation and The Legionnaires.

20. SOUTHERN NIGHTS by GLEN CAMPBELL

Glen Campbell

This was written and originally recorded by Allen Toussaint on his 1975 album Southern Nights. In our interview with Toussaint, he explained that it was the last song he recorded for the album, and it came in a flash. "While I was finishing the album Van Dyke Parks visited me in the studio," said Allen. "He was a wonderful guy, a genius of a guy. He said, 'Well, consider that you were going to die in two weeks. If you knew that, what would you think you would like to have done?' And after he said that, I wrote 'Southern Nights' as soon as he left."

21. SURRENDER by CHEAP TRICK

This song is featured in a number of films. In Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1983) the ticket hustler Mike Damone sings "Surrender" to help try to persuade a girl to buy tickets to a Cheap Trick concert. Band members Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander appear in the film Daddy Day Care (2003), which also features this song.

22. THE CHAIN by FLEETWOOD MAC

This song was used in episodes of Heroes ("Chapter Five 'Exposed'" - 2009), Glee ("Rumours" - 2011) and The Americans ("Walter Taffet" - 2015). It was also featured in the 2017 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where it appears in two scenes. All five Fleetwood Mac members agreed to its use after watching the scenes.

5 Of The Very Best Action Movie Soundtracks

1.The A-Team (1983) As far as action soundtracks go, this could be the bet that ever came out of a television show.  The A-Team came in 1983 and lasted until 1987. This soundtrack avoided the 1980s temptation to shoe horn shitty synthetic beats in there that were all the rage and went full old school.  I also have to say that it wasn’t just the opening theme that was great for The A-Team.  It seemed that they really scored every episode individually and with distinct care.  There was no cheaping out. 2.Mission: Impossible (1996) Way back in the 1990s, almost 20 years ago now actually, they got things right when they rebooted Mission: Impossible.  It seems that back then reboots were a more considered option. Mission: Impossible (1996) But what they really got right was the soundtrack.  That theme alone helped the trailers that got this movie off the ground no end.  Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen really rejigged that score in the bes...
