Diana Ross (Source: Amazon)

This was written by the Motown husband and wife songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson. Nick Ashford was inspired by an experience when he first moved to New York. He was walking down a Manhattan thoroughfare, determined that New York City would not get the best of him; the words "Ain't no mountain high enough" popped into his head.

2.BRANDY (YOU'RE A FINE GIRL) by LOOKING GLASS

The band was signed by Clive Davis, a famous record executive who has nurtured the careers of many successful artists, including Santana, Billy Joel and Whitney Houston. Davis has a knack for knowing a hit song when he hears one, but he got this one wrong, releasing it as the B-side of their song "Don't It Make You Feel Good." Harv Moore, a disc jockey in Washington DC, flipped the record and played "Brandy" instead. It became very popular in the DC area, and quickly spread nationwide.

3.BRING IT ON HOME TO ME by SAM COOKE

Sam Cooke wrote this and recorded the original version, which is in an R&B style. The song is about a guy who loses his girl. He doesn't think much of it at first, then starts to miss her terribly and will do anything to get her back.

4.CHERRY BOMB by THE RUNAWAYS

Songs used in Guardians of The Galaxy Movies
Cherry Bomb

"Cherry Bomb" was written by Runaways manager Kim Fowley and guitarist Joan Jett for the group's self-titled debut album. The title is a play on the name of their lead singer Cherie Currie, who was just 16 when this song was released. A "Cherry Bomb" is a small explosive device popular with kids, but in the context of this song, it means an underage girl who is lots of trouble - in this case taunting her parents and other adults with suggestions of promiscuity and bad behavior.

5.COME A LITTLE BIT CLOSER by JAY & THE AMERICANS

This was the biggest hit for Jay & the Americans. Kenny Vance, who is an original member of the group, told us: "'Come A Little Bit Closer' was recorded in the last probably five minutes of a session where we were trying to record something else that we spent the whole session on.

6.COME AND GET YOUR LOVE by REDBONE

Redbone, their name a nod to their heritage, was a Native American band from Coalinga, California led by the brothers Pat and Candido ("Lolly") Vasquez. They were managed by Bumps Blackwell, who guided Little Richard and Sam Cooke to success. To avert discrimination, he convinced the brothers to use a different last name, so they became known as Pat and Lolly Vegas. Redbone earned an audience playing clubs on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles at the same time The Doors were on that scene.

7.ESCAPE (THE PIÑA COLADA SONG) by RUPERT HOLMES

Rupert Holmes has written several Broadway plays, including Say Goodnight, Gracie and The Mystery Of Edwin Drood. He has written songs that have been performed by Barbra Streisand, Judy Collins, and Britney Spears. He created a television series called Remember WENN and wrote a novel called Where The Truth Lies. His works have won Tonys, Emmys, and Edgars. Despite all this, he is best known for this song.

8.FATHER AND SON by CAT STEVENS

Songs used in Guardians of The Galaxy Movies
Father and Son - Cat Stevens

This is about a Russian family where the son wants to join the revolution but his father wants him to stay home and work on the farm. Stevens made up the story, but his relationship with his own father was an influence on the song. When he appeared on The Chris Isaak Hour in 2009, Stevens said: "He was running a restaurant and I was a Pop Star, so I wasn't following the path that he laid out. But we certainly didn't have any antagonism between us. I loved him and he loved me."

9.FLASH LIGHT by PARLIAMENT

This funk classic was originally recorded for Parliament bass player Bootsy Collins' spin-off band, Bootsy's Rubber Band. It was intended for their first album, but Collins didn't like it so he gave it to Parliament.

10.FOOLED AROUND AND FELL IN LOVE by ELVIN BISHOP

This song is about a guy who callously played the field until one day when he falls madly in love with a girl he can't stop thinking about. "The better a song is, the less story there is to it, as far as I can tell," Bishop said in his Songfacts interview. "The best songs just come rushing out. I don't know if life squeezes them out of you, or if they're just so right that they take no thought. I don't know. Or if you're given a temporary connection to the flow of the universe, or whatever it is. But that song just damn near wrote itself."

11.GO ALL THE WAY by THE RASPBERRIES

This song is about a girl trying to convince a guy to "Go all the way," meaning to have sex with him. Carmen told Blender magazine in 2006 that he was inspired by The Rolling Stones performance of "Let's Spend The Night Together" when Mick Jagger had to sing it as "Let's spend some time together."  Click here

5 Of The Very Best Action Movie Soundtracks

1.The A-Team (1983) As far as action soundtracks go, this could be the bet that ever came out of a television show.  The A-Team came in 1983 and lasted until 1987. This soundtrack avoided the 1980s temptation to shoe horn shitty synthetic beats in there that were all the rage and went full old school.  I also have to say that it wasn’t just the opening theme that was great for The A-Team.  It seemed that they really scored every episode individually and with distinct care.  There was no cheaping out. 2.Mission: Impossible (1996) Way back in the 1990s, almost 20 years ago now actually, they got things right when they rebooted Mission: Impossible.  It seems that back then reboots were a more considered option. Mission: Impossible (1996) But what they really got right was the soundtrack.  That theme alone helped the trailers that got this movie off the ground no end.  Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen really rejigged that score in the bes...
